If you see HTML5 and WebM in the footer of the video (as above), then you are watching a video in your browser without Flash and without the patent-riddled H.264
Click on 720p to get the best quality.
I can’t see how to go full screen on it tho. Presumably that is coming soon.
It’s all done using HTML5 and the VP8 codec that Google fully open-sourced last week
Mightn’t mean much to you as a punter but as you can see, the quality is bloody good
The lack of patents or single-vendor lock-in is why HTML, http and other web standards were able to thrive and enable new businesses
The lack of a decent alternative to Flash as a delivery mechanism for video is why it thrived in the same period
Let’s hope we see VP8 and the WebM project enabling a whole new generation of video products and businesses.

Got the latest Chromium build but the VP8 page isn’t showing up for me, I’m still only getting H.264
What OS are you on? The Linux nightly on launch day wouldn’t even give me H.264, only Flash. The one from this morning worked like a charm. The early-access version (more stable than nightly) will have it built-in from tomorrow onwards so that might be a better bet.
Oops… you forgots to tell us point 2.5: enable HTML 5 testing on youtube. You silly man you In fact, all you need is step 2.5, if you have the upto date version of Chrome, as that supports VP8 now too.http://www.youtube.com/html5

Wonder how long it will take to get into Dev line on chrome?Webm website is unusable on nexus 1. Terrible…
Doh! Forget that HTML5 point. But I’m not sure it is in chrome-dev until tomorrow. Maybe they beat their deadline?
Ah my mistake. Html5 is working in Chrome but not VP8.
@Richard With some joined-up thinking they could have got VP8 into the Froyo release on the Nexus One. Now that would have been some announcement!
